People who call themselves "people of God" or "Christians" are often the ones who give a worse impression of who God is than do atheists. Does it surprise you that I say that? Why would I? Simply put, people who say they are Christians do not make God the Son a daily pursuit . They think of God and His purpose only when:
- it's convenient (and in our day, when is anything convenient?);
- a crisis hits: ("Oh, God! If you get me out of this, I'll do whatever you want." And they mean it ... until the crisis hits. Then a sort of spiritual amnesia hits);
- guilt: (when one commits a "sin" (let's call it what it really is!) and they know they need to get it "fixed");
- emptiness: when one realizes that their job, their spouse, their hobbies, their habits, their money, their life cannot fill that gigantic hole in the soul.
Yet, until that time hits, we live as "practical atheists" --- we live as if the only 'god' that exists is the one who looks back at us in the mirror. The God of the Bible has been laughed at, spit at, made fun of, and been considered obsolete, a figment of our imagination, or outdated. And even if all that is not true, our lives often show that He is either insufficient or irrelevant.

So one may ask, "Is this God --- the God of the Scriptures --- worth pursuing?" My conviction is that He most certainly is! Fads and fashions have gone the way of the do-do. Yet, if you read the Scriptures (and ask God to help you), you will see that it is as fresh as this morning's newspaper.
We make lousy gods. What I mean is, we are lousy at running our own lives and trying to control everything. We're not wired that way. And we are too complex to have happened by chance --- as many in our day and age say. We have been wired with information that could only come from an Intelligent Designer.
As one songwriter put it, "There is more to this life." Are you ready for the pursuit of a lifetime? I hope so, because God has been pursuing you your whole life!
