Why do missions? John Piper in his book Let the Nations Be Glad, says, "The main concern of the church is not missions, but worship. Missions exists because worship doesn't." We are wired to worship something or someone --- even if it's worshiping our own ideas.
God is doing an incredible work in missions both here at home and abroad. And do you know what they ask of us?
(1) To be aware and;
(2) To pray.
Below are some web pages of missions organizations all over the world. Visit their sites, put some faces of these workers and people groups, touch base with them, and pray, pray, PRAY!
NORTH AMERICA
The International Mission Board, SBC: The mission of the International Mission Board, SBC, is to lead Southern Baptists in international missions efforts to evangelize the lost, disciple believers, develop churches and minister to people in need. Leading Southern Baptists is done by mobilizing prayer support, appointing missionaries, enlisting volunteers, channeling financial support and communicating how God is working overseas.

Hearing Impaired of the Dominican Republic : Dominican Deaf Baptist leaders are trained in the Dominican Republic by members of the Hearing Impaired Team during sessions of the Deaf Leader Institute. Ask God to put a desire in the hearts of the Deaf leaders to set aside time for classes during the six weeks required and a call to use what they learn to reach unsaved Deaf person and enable them to become a part of a Deaf congregation.
SOUTH AMERICA
Aymara of Bolivia :Please pray that God will call more missionaries to the Aymara Team. Health issues have reduced the size of the team. Therefore, pray that the God of the harvest will call out laborers who will respond and spread the gospel to
these precious people
Valencia Professionals Team : Venezuela is a most beautiful country in South America, but many hearts are darkened because they pursue the wrong gods. Pray for these people.
AFRICA
Anyi of Cote D'Ivoire and Ghana: The Anyi Team writes: "Please join with us in praising the Lord that there have been a number of baptisms in the village of Agnoumbouakro! There are now people going out every week from the Abengourou, Kodjina and Ameakro churches to do Bible teaching for this baby church. Please pray that these new believers would hunger and desire to know God and share what they have learned with others. Please pray for direction and wisdom for those who are discipling them."
ASIA
Bangkok Metro Team : Pray as they seek to make inroads with the Gospel to the Thailanders.
BodyLife Cell Group in Taiwan: Unbound Student Ministries is seeking to reach people for Christ not only in Asia, but all over the world. You may receive a prayer update from them.
BURYAT OF RUSSIA: Through the help of another Christian organization, the Buryat Team has been able to record some testimonies of Buryat believers. Two cassette tapes with several testimonies (including the testimony of a former shaman) has been produced and are ready for distribution. Ask the Lord to open doors for the team to share these cassettes. Ask our Great Lord to provide "divine encounters" so that many will hear these testimonies of freedom, hope and new life in Jesus Christ. Give Him glory, for He is doing great things.
Gospel for Asia: The mission of Gospel for Asia is to reach the unreached of Asia with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and fulfill the Great Commission through recruiting, training, sending and assisting qualified laborers to win the lost and plant local churches in partnership with the body of Christ.
